Police announce 25K reward on nine cons who executed GST Fraud of Rs.10,000 Cr
Police are looking for nine conmen who were part of a well-oiled ring that pulled off a Rs.10,000 crore GST fraud by forming at least 3,000 shell businesses using bogus Aadhaar and PAN numbers and using these fake firms to generate e-way invoices and claim ITC from the government.
Since the fraud was exposed in June, 22 persons suspected of being members of the gang have been apprehended in Delhi and portions of the NCR, while nine others remain at large.
Police proclaimed a bounty of Rs.25k on each of the nine offenders on Tuesday under CrPC Section 82 (proclamation for person absconding).
"Our teams are conducting raids in several districts," added DCP Shakti Avasthy. "During questioning and with the use of evidence acquired thus far, we discovered the involvement of nine additional people, including the mastermind of the entire nexus," the DCP stated.
Anchit Goyal, Pradeep Goyal, Arjit Goyal, Praveen, Vikas Dabas, and Rohit Nagpal are all Delhi residents. The remaining members are Kunal Mehta and Baldev, both of Hisar district in Haryana, and Ashish Alawadi, of Sirsa district.
According to police, Anchit, Pradeep, and Arjit are relatives who ran the entire show. "They were in constant contact with the businessmen and other people who needed fake invoices to claim the ITC," Avasthy said, adding that police will shortly take their assets. Police will also serve non-bailable warrants on 7-8 suspects.
As per GST authorities, the total amount of ITC refund fraud might be far above Rs.16,500 crore.
