Punjab CM launches “Mera Bill” GST App to reward GST Payment on Invoice
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann introduced the ‘mera bill’ GST app on Monday as part of the ‘bill liao inaam pao’ (bring a bill, receive a prize) initiative.
According to an official announcement, the plan aims to improve compliance with the goods and services tax (GST) and hence income.
The plan is intended to encourage consumers to get bills from dealers for purchases made within the state, therefore compelling dealers to produce bills for their transactions.
Mann stated that users would be urged to submit invoices of their purchases to the ‘mera bill’ app in order to be eligible for a monthly fortunate draw on the 7th.
There will be a maximum of 10 awards each taxing district (the state has 29), for a total of 290 rewards per month.
The prize will be five times the taxable value of the goods or services indicated in the bill, with a maximum ceiling of Rs.10,000 for each reward.
He stated that the list of winners would be posted on the taxes department’s website, and that the winners will also be notified via the mobile app.
Mann stated that invoices for the sale and purchase of petroleum goods (crude oil, petrol, diesel, aviation turbine fuel and natural gas) and liquor as well as B2B (business to business) transactions, will not be eligible for participation in the scheme.
The CM encouraged people to collect receipts for their purchases and stated that the people of the state must engage strongly in this plan so that the message of tax compliance may reach each and every doorstep and the state receives its fair share of money for the different social welfare initiatives.
CM Mann stated that the initiative will help the government combat tax evasion.
