Punjab vigilance bureau arrests man for Rs. 25cr GST fraud
Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested Sammy Dhiman, who lost Rs. 25 crore to the state government in GST revenue.
Dhiman reportedly defrauded the government with bogus invoices and fictitious firms.
He had been avoiding arrest for the last five years. On July 5, 2018, an FIR was registered against him at Mandi Gobindgarh Police Station (Fatehgarh Sahib District) on charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy under section 132 (1) of the GST Act.
Then this case was transferred to the flying squad of the Punjab vigilance bureau.
According to the sources, Dhiman (a resident of Mandi Gobindgarh) and his associates systematically arranged GST fraud by forging invoices on behalf of non-existent businesses.
After that, these fake invoices were sold to those firms that operate in Mandi Gobindgarh and Ludhiana. The actions taken by the accused resulted in a substantial financial loss worth approximately Rs. 25 crore upon the state exchequer.
Inspector Sukhjinder Singh of the vigilance bureau has taken the accused into custody.
