ACB Catches Two Middlemen

The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested two alleged middlemen for accepting a bribe of Rs 25 lakh on behalf of a Central GST superintendent in Rajsamand.
The ACB also detained Sanwal Ram, Superintendent (Tax Evasion) at the Central Goods and Services Tax Commissionerate in Udaipur, in connection with the case.
According to ACB Director General Govund Gupta, a businessman who runs two registered firms had complained that Ram, through middleman Anil Pareek, allegedly demanded Rs 60 lakh. The money was allegedly sought to settle issues related to recovery proceedings, show-cause notices and summons involving the firms.
The bribe was also allegedly demanded to get one of the firm's accounts reactivated. The complainant told the ACB that the accused were asking for Rs 25 lakh as the first instalment.
After verifying the complaint and the alleged bribe demand, the ACB set up a trap. During the operation, Anil Pareek allegedly arranged for another middleman, Sushil Pareek, to accept the Rs 25 lakh.
Both Anil Pareek and Sushil Pareek were arrested while allegedly accepting the money, officials said. Sanwal Ram was detained during the operation.
The ACB also searched Ram's residence in Udaipur as part of the investigation.
