If you earn your income from overseas clients or entities as a freelancer, content creator, YouTuber, influencer, consultant, or agency in India, then a recently released foreign-exchange reporting requirement may affect how you document those earnings.

According to the sources, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has notified the Foreign Exchange Management (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026, effective from October 01, 2026. According to the regulation, service exporters are mandated to furnish an Export Declaration Form (EDF), declaring the full value of the exported services.

An exporter is a person who provides their services outside the country and, in return, earns money from those services. The Authorised Dealer (AD) is the specified authority in the domestic tariff area for services other than software. Here's the breakdown:

The requirement is for individuals who deliver/export services to overseas recipients. These individuals can include freelancers, consultants, agencies, influencers, content creators, and other service providers earning income from international clients or entities.

As per the regulation, the EDF form is required to be submitted within the time period of 30 days from the end of the month in which the invoice for the services was raised. Consequently, for the October 2026 service-export invoice, the deadline would be November 30, 2026, as per the requirement.

For services other than software, the deadline to submit the EDF form is on or before the date of receipt of payment. As per the regulation, the requirement to file the EDF form in case of services rendered outside India is not limited to payments received in US Dollars.
