Registration for the Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) on social responsibility and community participation on the SWAYAM site is now open, according to the University Grants Commission (UGC). The commission has also made public the list of MOOCs that educational institutions are prepared to offer for the July 2024 semester. Applicants may submit their applications for the MOOC at swayam.gov.in/UGC, the official website.

The course draws attention to the role that social networking plays in serving as a conduit between the Indian people and the various government initiatives. For a better comprehension of the students, explanations have been given regarding sensitivity to the environment and education, safety and energy, excitement towards physical, mental, and spiritual health, as well as simple living and high thinking. The advantages of involving the community in research and innovation are also covered in the course. Students will be able to comprehend the numerous issues that arise in any society and the potential solutions for them.

In order to further improve other communities, students must appreciate and benefit from the unique knowledge that Indian communities have gleaned from their predecessors and life experiences. Simply put, this course will assist the students in establishing a connection with the authentic essence of the country.

Course Design

Estimated workload:

  • Online module classes of approximately 1 hour along with fieldwork for 3 hours in a week are expected from the students.

Pre – Pre-requisites for the course:

Students must be willing to learn and understand:-

  • The role of community engagement in national development.
  • The responsibility of Indian citizens towards community development.

Scheduled assignments:

  • Total 5 assignments will be given to students. One assignment after every two modules will be conducted at the end of each unit.

Week wise schedule:

  • Week 1 – Module 1: Concept, Ethics and Spectrum of Community engagement
  • Week 2 – Module 2: Local community, Rural culture and Practice of community engagement
  • Week 3 – Module 3:  Stages, Components and Principles of community development, Utility of public resources.
  • Week 4 – Module 4: Contributions of self-help groups
  • Week 5 – Module 5: Rural Development Programs and Rural institutions
  • Week 6 – Module 6: Local Administration and Community Involvement
  • Week 7 – Module 7:  Social contribution of community networking, Various government schemes.
  • Week 8 – Module 8: Programmes of community engagement and their evaluation.
  • Week 9 – Module 9: Community Engaged Research and Ethics in Community Engaged Research
  • Week 10 – Module 10:  Rural Distress, Rural Poverty, Impact of COVID-19 on Migrant Laborers, Mitigation of Disaster.

Certification of course

This MOOC course is available for free enrollment to interested learners, including students, working professionals, and lifelong learners.

To obtain the SWAYAM Certificate for this course, you must register for the SWAYAM Examination and take the proctored test at one of the National Testing Agency’s (https://swayam.nta.ac.in/) many exam locations around India. The SWAYAM examination cost for this course is Rs. 1000, and it must be paid at the time the exam is registered.

Distribution of Marks:

There will be an internal assessment component to this course consisting of an assignment, discussion forum, and activity worth thirty marks, and an externally proctored examination component worth 70 marks.

To be qualified for a SWAYAM Certificate, candidates must receive at least 40% of the possible points (i.e., at least 12 in the internal assessment and 28 in the external proctored exam).
