SGST Officers seeks Bribe from Trader; FIR Filed
A case of unknown Senior State Goods Service Tax (SGST) inspectors collecting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a cement trader via Google pay has come to light in the city.
The event was brought to light after a cement trader filed a FIR against the anonymous SGST officers at the city's Panki police station on Saturday. The police have launched an investigation into this matter. During the investigation, it was discovered that the Bolero-borne SGST officers requested a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the cement-laden truck driver by threatening to take the cargo since the items' paperwork were incomplete.
When the driver stated that he was out of cash, the SGST officers advised him to make an online payment. He then informed the cement owner, who made an online payment of Rs 10,000 using the Google Pay app.
Later, at the Panki police station, the trader filed a FIR against the SGST personnel. In his complaint, Naveen Darolia, the manager of Saawariya Enterprises, alleged that on April 7, one of his trucks was travelling to the Gajner region of Kanpur Dehat district after loading a consignment cement.
All documentation pertaining to the shipment were complete. However, at 6 a.m., some Bolero-borne passengers halted his vehicle near the Ispat Nagar waste dump and announced themselves as SGST department inspectors, asking the driver to show the documentation pertaining to the items. When the police saw the documentation, they threatened to take the shipment because the paperwork was insufficient.
"The driver then requested that the officials call the owner. The authorities informed the owner that the paperwork for the consignment was incomplete and that it would be sized. If you want to keep it, pay a bribe of Rs 10,000, and he will send Rs 10,000 to the officer's Google pay number," Darolia explained.
Police filed a FIR against GST officer and others after receiving a complaint from the company's manager, Naven Darolia.
