Tamil Nadu Vigilance Wing arrests ED Official in Bribery Case
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) conducted an extraordinary raid on the Madurai office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday, December 1. The operation came only hours after Ankit Tiwari, an ED official in Dindigul, was arrested. The DVAC has also been looking for Anikt Tiwari's home in Dindigul.
Ankit was reportedly arrested on Friday while taking a bribe of Rs. 20 lakhs in cash from a doctor in Dindigul. The DVAC is also looking into whether the individual is an ED officer, and a formal statement verifying the accused's credentials is expected.
According to authorities, Ankit and his claimed crew intimidated and took bribes from a number of people, claiming that if payments were given, the cases against them would be dropped.
As per reports, DVAC officers stopped Ankit's automobile on the Dindigul-Madurai National Highway and arrested him. The Tamil news station Puthiyathalaimurai stated that, the DVAC received a confidential information before apprehending Ankit and discovering the cash.
Dindigul's Superintendent of Police (SP) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) are now conducting further investigations at the ED's Dindigul regional office.
