CBDT chairman Nitin Gupta said on Monday that the income-tax department had issued over 44 lakh notices to taxpayers in December.

Tax Collections showed a strong rise in the last 10 years: CBDT Chief The Central Board of direct taxes (CBDT) chairman Nitin Gupta told on Monday that the income-tax department had issued over 44 lakh letters to taxpayers in December, just ahead of the advance tax due period, about the transactions carried done by them missing while submitting forms. Gupta, who was in the city for the National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT) valediction function, highlighted the significant growth in taxes over the last ten years. Citing data from 2013-14, he said that while the number of returns submitted increased significantly in 2023–24, gross and net collections increased exponentially.
