Tax Officer sent to 2 days Custody to ACB in a Bribery Case
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has taken 2 days custody of a tax officer who was caught receiving a bribe of Rs 5,000 in Godhra on Tuesday.
Pushpakkumar Panchal (44), a Godhra-based employee, demanded a bribe from the merchant in order to execute an online application for a GST number. The trader refused to pay the bribe and approached the ACB.
The ACB set up a trap and summoned the complainant to the state tax office in Godhra on Monday to pay the bribe. Panchal received the bribe money on his office table in front of a witness who was accompanying the complainant.
ACB officers caught him at that moment and put him under arrest on Monday night. Panchal was brought before a court in Godhra for remand on Tuesday.
The court granted ACB a two-day remand to interrogate the accused.
