Traders of Chandigarh offended due to delay in One-Time Settlement Ccheme for pending VAT Cases
The Chandigarh Beopar Mandal’s members have complained about the UT Administration’s delay in implementing the one-time settlement scheme for all pending VAT assessment cases on the Punjab pattern.
Members were outraged that, despite the CBM’s numerous requests and memorandums to officials of the Chandigarh Administration and even representatives of the ruling party, no significant reduction in hefty VAT penalties had been announced to date.
The CBM president stated that they were being penalised for cases that were 6 to 7 years old, despite the fact that other states were implementing amnesty schemes to help traders.
CBM, chairman of the GST sub-committee, said traders were dissatisfied with the Chandigarh Administration for delaying the implementation of the OTS scheme for assessing old VAT cases despite pledges from high officials and ruling party leaders.
According to the CBM general secretary, traders are feeling stressed because they have received notices worth crores of rupees and their bank accounts have been frozen.
Before resorting to protests, the traders decided to make another plea to the UT Administrator as well as the new BJP president for the scheme to be implemented.
