Two CGST Officials Accused of Taking Bribe; One Arrested
Two tax officials in Prayagraj were charged by the CBI for asking for a bribe to process a GST registration.
The CBI arrested one official, Inspector Hari Shankar Saroj, while the other official, Superintendent Anil Matlani, escaped and is currently being searched for.
According to Aditya Kesharwani, director of Loopeak Fintech Pvt Ltd, he applied online for GST registration for his company. When Superintendent Matlani was supposed to verify the company's location, he demanded a Rs. 10,000 bribe to complete the process.
The CBI checked these claims and found the bribe money was meant to be shared with Inspector Saroj. The CBI filed charges against both officials under anti-corruption laws and is continuing its investigation.
