UDIN Portal Update: ICAI Revises Categories and Sub-Categories for Future Registrations
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has updated categories and sub-categories on its UDIN (Unique Document Identification Number) Portal. This update has been issued by the Directorate of UDIN on June 8, 2026 with the approval of the Council of the ICAI in its 446th meeting dated October 8, 2025.
ICAI said the revisions were made to improve the classification of documents generated through the UDIN Portal and to make the categorisation system more comprehensive and user-friendly for members.
As part of the changes, the existing "Certificates" category has been renamed "Certificates and Other Reports."
Apart from the above, the "GST & Tax Audit" category has been renamed "Tax Audit."
However, ICAI has clarified that the "Audit & Assurance Functions" category will remain unchanged, and no modifications have been made to its classification or scope.
The Institute has advised all members to take note of these revisions and use updated categories while generating UDIN on the portal. The changes are effective for all future document registrations through the UDIN system.
ICAI further added that for any queries or further clarification regarding the revised classifications, members may contact the UDIN Directorate through the official communication channels provided by ICAI.
