UPPSC PCS 2023: The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has revised the examination pattern for the UPPSC PCS (Provincial Civil Service). The UPPSC has modified the exam pattern for the UPPSC PCS Mains Exam 2023. The optional subject has been removed from the UPPSC PCS mains exam syllabus. In place of the two optional papers, two new general knowledge papers have been introduced for the mains exam 2023. The updated exam pattern will still have the same number of papers (8) in the UPPSC PCS main exam 2023. The commission will shortly notify the official syllabus for the UPPSC PCS mains papers, including two newly introduced papers.
Earlier in 2018, the UPPSC updated the exam pattern for the Prelims Examination. The updated prelims exam pattern is in use from 2018 onwards. This change in the UPPSC PCS main exam will be applied from this session, i.e., 2023 onwards. The decision was taken in a meeting headed by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath. The commission changed the syllabus in light of such candidates who use UPPSC PCS as a backup for the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission).
Earlier, the exam pattern for the UPSC and UPPSC PCS was almost the same. So, many candidates used to prepare for the UPSC and UPPSC simultaneously, keeping UPPSC PCS as a backup option. With the revised syllabus, such candidates will be filtered out from the UPPSC exam. The two newly introduced papers will test the candidates’ general knowledge of the Uttar Pradesh state. Candidates will have to prepare thoroughly to score better in these two papers, as they will assess the candidates’ knowledge solely about Uttar Pradesh state. This updated exam pattern will ensure that candidates who list UPPSC as their first choice will be the State Government’s first preference.
The UPPSC PCS 2023 prelims exam will be held on 14th May 2023. The UPPSC PCS prelims exam will consist of two papers. Only Paper 1 will be considered for merit list preparation. Paper 2 is a qualifying paper where candidates scoring at least 33% marks will be considered qualified. If a candidate fails to score minimum marks in the prelims Paper 2, then such candidates will not be considered for further process. Both papers will be held on the same day. The new prelims exam pattern ( active from 2018 onwards) is tabulated below:
Exam Paper | Paper Name | Number of Questions | Marks | Duration | Timing | Type |
Paper 1 | General Studies I | 150 | 200 | 2 hour | 9:30 am-11:30 am | Objective |
Paper 2 | General Studies II (CSAT) | 100 | 200 | 2 hour | 2:30 pm-4:30 pm | Objective |
