Cricketer Virat Kohli is the top taxpayer among Indian sports personalities for the previous financial year that concluded on March 31, 2024 (FY24) as per data shared by Fortune India magazine.
Virat Kohli paid Rs.66 crore in taxes for the financial year 2023-24 making him the top tax-payer among Indian sportspersons and ranked fifth among all celebrities.
Following Virat, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the second-highest taxpayer among cricketers despite retiring from international cricket in 2020 and currently playing only in the IPL for the Chennai Super Kings. He paid Rs.38 crore in taxes for the Financial Year 2024, securing the seventh position on the list.
Kohli, who is currently on leave following his recent ODI series against Sri Lanka, is the top sports figure on India’s list of highest-tax-paying celebrities.
By 2024, Virat Kohli’s net worth is expected to exceed Rs.1,000 crore. The 35-year-old cricketer’s income is mostly derived from his cricket career, which includes contracts with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and participation in the IPL with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Virat Kohli’s earnings are further boosted by endorsements with prominent global brands such as Puma, Audi, and MRF. Kohli also has a stake in numerous businesses, including ‘One8,’ a fitness brand he co-founded with Puma.
Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly are also ranked as the third and fourth highest taxpayers among sportsmen, paying Rs.28 crore and Rs.23 crore, respectively. Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant finished fifth and sixth, contributing Rs.13 crore and Rs.10 crore in taxes, respectively.
