With 30% Women Chartered Accountants in India, CA no longer a male-dominated profession
Historically a male-dominated field, Chartered Accountancy (CA) in India is on a steady and remarkable evolution. In the last 20 years, women have been slowly but surely staking their claim in this tough profession, a sign of times changing and determination still being dominant.
In 2000, women made up only 8% of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) membership. As of 2025, women account for over 30% of India's Chartered Accountants. This is more than just a number; it's a representation of change.
There are several countless stories of adaptability, of women balancing ambition with responsibilities at home, pushing through one of the toughest professional exams in India, and breaking long-standing societal and professional barriers.
Recent CA examinations further highlight this shift, with women candidates consistently securing top ranks across all levels. This consistent performance underscores their growing influence and capability in the domain.
Financial leadership of India is evolving. And at its centre are women who are redefining it with confidence, expertise, and an unshakeable spirit.
A BJP politician has also posted on platform X (formerly Twitter), saying, "What once was seen as a male-dominated profession, Chartered Accountancy in India is undergoing a quiet but powerful transformation...Finance leadership in India is evolving. And it truly makes me proud to see women redefining finance leadership in India with resilience and confidence."
