A woman working in a private firm was defrauded out of Rs. 8 lakh by cyber criminals who promised her a high salary in exchange for an online job. Ami Surani, of Sama Savli Road, has filed a cheating case with the cybercrime police station.

Surani claimed in her complaint that on December 13, she received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number.

She was promised a part-time online job in exchange for subscribing to and liking a YouTube channel. Surani was asked for her information, and after liking the channel, Rs.150 was credited to her bank account.

She was later added to a Telegram group that was eventually deleted.

Surani was emailed a link to a website and requested to register herself, as well as being joined to another Telegram group. Various duties were assigned to her, and she was also asked to deposit money for technical reasons. Cybercriminals were also crediting money to her husband’s bank account.

Surani eventually transferred nearly Rs.8 lakh to other bank accounts. She then realized she had been deceived and went to the cybercrime police station.

People have been duped by cyber fraudsters who promise them high profits for doing online tasks and then steal money from their bank accounts.
