10.28 lakh New Members added in ESIC Scheme in November
According to official data released on Tuesday, almost 10.28 lakh new members joined the ESIC-run social security plan in November 2021, compared to 12.39 lakh the previous month, providing insight into formal sector employment in the country.
The most recent data can be found in a report published by the National Statistical Office (NSO). According to the most recent data, gross new enrolments with ESIC were 10.78 lakh in April, 8.91 lakh in May, 10.68 lakh in June, 13.42 lakh in July, 13.47 lakh in August, and 13.57 lakh in September 2021.
After governments eased COVID-induced limitations following the second wave of the epidemic, which reached the country in mid-April last year, enrolments increased in June, July, and August.
According to the NSO data, gross enrolments of new ESIC subscribers were 1.15 crore in 2020-21, up from 1.51 crore in 2019-20 and 1.49 crore in 2018-19.
Around 83.35 lakh new subscribers joined the ESIC scheme between September 2017 and March 2018. According to the data, gross new ESIC enrolments increased by 5.93 crore from September 2017 to November 2021.
The NSO report is based on payroll data from new subscribers to ESIC, the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), and the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority's various social security schemes (PFRDA).
Since April 2018, it has began publishing statistics from these bodies, covering the period beginning in September 2017. According to the data, net new enrolments with the EPFO, the retirement fund authority, increased to 13.95 lakh in November 2021 from 11.10 lakh in October 2021.
According to the report, around 4.88 crore (gross) new subscribers joined the Employees' Provident Fund system between September 2017 and November 2021.
According to the paper, titled 'Payroll Reporting in India: An Employment Perspective - November 2021,' there are components of overlap and the estimates are not additive because the number of subscribers comes from several sources.
The study also presents differing perspectives on the levels of employment in the formal sector, according to the NSO, and does not measure employment holistically.
