CBI arrested one more person in Birbhum West Bengal violence case

According to an official, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested one more suspect in connection with the Birbhum killings on Sunday, bringing the total number of arrests made by the agency in the case to five.

CBI sleuths summoned the accused, identified as Samir Sheikh of Bogtui village, for questioning on Sunday morning, he added.

“Every time we spoke with eyewitnesses, this man’s name came up. He was giving us several versions today, attempting to perplex us. We’ve taken him into custody and will continue to question him “According to a CBI official.

The CBI has already detained four suspects in Mumbai.

In addition, 22 persons were arrested by the West Bengal Police for their claimed involvement in the crime. They’re all being held by the CBI right now.

Following the assassination of local TMC leader Bhadu Sheikh, assailants tossed petrol bombs at many houses in Bogtui hamlet near Rampurhat town on March 21, nine persons died of burn injuries.

The matter was initially investigated by a Special Investigation Team formed by the state government, but it was later handed over to the CBI following a Calcutta High Court ruling.

In a Press Release (dated 07.04.0220) CBI Stated,The Central Bureau of Investigation has today arrested four accused from Mumbai in an ongoing investigation of a case related to brutal incident at Rampurhat, District Birbhum(West Bengal). CBI had registered a case on 25.03.2022 against 22 accused in compliance of the Hon’ble Calcutta High Court order dated 25.03.2022 in connection WPA(P) 130, 124, 125, 126, 129 and 133 of 2022 and taken over the investigation of the case, earlier registered vide FIR No.169/2022 dated 22.03.2022 at Police Station Rampurhat, District Birbhum(West Bengal). The arrested accused were produced today before the jurisdictional court and were granted transit remand till 10.04.2022.”
