Kerala govt to launch mobile app to prevent GST evasion

The Kerala government is preparing to launch a mobile app where users may upload their original bills and stand to win prizes. With the use of this software, the Kerala government wants to reduce GST fraud. The Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will unveil the “Lucky Bill App” on August 16, 2022.

The state government anticipates that the “Lucky Bill App” would increase tax revenues by encouraging individuals to request bills when making purchases and using services. With this app, the government is attempting to find new ways to boost state finances and revenue.

The change also occurs at a time when the Center’s compensation with regard to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) has ended as of July 1. If the compensation regime would be extended as requested by Kerala and several other states is unclear at this time.

According to officials, the state GST Department will be able to check the app’s status to see how tax return files are progressing. According to them, “this application will help to ensure that the taxation requirements are rigorously obeyed.”

Finance Minister K N Balagopal has allocated a budget of Rs.5 crores for the introduction of the ‘Lucky Bill App’.
