CBI Seized Over 200 Sale Deeds During Raids in Bihar

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has recovered over 200 sale deeds during raids at the premises of several RJD leaders in Bihar in connection with IRCTC land-for-job scam involving former Railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Only five sale deeds were included in the FIR, but the CBI has since discovered 200. The agency has taken possession of each of these documents. Jewelry has also been found by the CBI.

Raids were conducted at the residences of RJD MLC Sunil Singh, party leaders Ashfaque Karim, Faiyaz Ahmad and Subodh Roy.

The CBI has learned from the investigation that Lalu Yadav’s wife Rabri Devi and daughter Hema Yadav received gifts of land from job aspirants who were subsequently hired by the railways.

The CBI had already detained two people in connection with the scam: Bhola Yadav, then the OSD to former Railway Minister Lalu Yadav, and railway employee Haridayanand Chaudhary. Lalu Yadav’s OSD from 2004 to 2009 was Bhola.

Background:

The CBI filed a case against Lalu Yadav, the former union railway minister, his wife Rabri Devi, their two children, as well as 15 other people, including unidentified government employees and private citizens.

According to CBI investigators, Lalu Yadav received financial benefits between 2004 and 2009 in the form of the transfer of property (land) into the names of his family members in place of the appointment of substitutes to Group “D” Posts in various Railway Zones.

Many Patna locals sold and gave up their Patna-located land to Lalu Yadav’s family members and a private business that was under Lalu Yadav and his family’s control. They did this either directly or through their family members.

The agency claims that despite the fact that no advertisement or other public notice was published about the hiring of substitutes in Zonal Railways, Patna citizens were employed in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur, and Hazipur.

“In continuation of this modus operandi, about 1,05,292 Sq. feet land, immovable properties situated in Patna were acquired by Lalu Yadav and his family members through five sales deeds and two gift deeds, showing the payment made to seller in cash in most of the land transfer”, officials say.
