Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) North Eastern Regional Campus at Aizawl Inaugurated by President of India
On her visit to Mizoram, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, officially opened the Indian Institute of Mass Communication North East’s permanent North-East Campus today in Aizawl. The campus will provide short-term media & communication courses in addition to postgraduate diploma programmes in English journalism and digital media.
“One of the top journalism schools in the nation is the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), an independent organisation within the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India. The IIMC includes five regional campuses, including the main campus in New Delhi, as well as locations in Dhenkanal, Odisha; Aizawl, Mizoram; Jammu, J&K; Kottayam, Kerala; and Amravati, Maharashtra. The Regional Campuses were established in order to serve various regions and fulfil the need for media education across the nation. Speaking on the occasion, the President remarked, “I am pleased to open the Indian Institute of Mass Communication’s permanent campus in Aizawl, which will support media and mass communication courses in the entire North East. The IIMC is a prestigious school that offers a vibrant learning and working environment that fosters fresh perspectives, research, and the development of leaders and innovators in the field of mass media”.
In 2011, the IIMC North East Campus started operating out of a temporary structure provided by Mizoram University. The campus’ construction project started in 2015 and was finished in 2019. The total outlay of the Project is 25 crores rupees. On the 8 acres of donated property from Mizoram University, the IIMC has a permanent campus with administrative and academic facilities that are distinct from the dormitories and staff housing.
The campus has offered a PG Diploma in English Journalism since it opened, and the majority of its students come from outside of India as well as those from the Nort East States. This year, the Institute is pleased to announce that English Journalism has once again been the top subject across all IIMC Campuses.
Through campus placements and independent work, the Campus also helps its students land jobs in reputable media organizations around the nation. Every year, students carve out a niche for themselves in renowned media outlets like Doordarshan, All India Radio, PTI, and other top private media outlets.
The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi was inaugurated in 1965 to cater to the training needs of media professionals in the country and other developing countries. It has ever since functioned as a training institute for the Indian Information Service also.
