Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is an organization under the Government of India, which is responsible for recruiting candidates for various posts in different ministries, departments, and organizations of the government of India. SSC is supposed to conduct different exams of different levels every year to fill the vacancies in Government organizations, departments & ministries.

The average pay package across all SSC exams is between Rs. 18,000 to 154,000 and the JOB Security is 100%. Henceforth, these exams are so popular among youth. The names of the 7 SSC exams and their details are mentioned here. Students can choose any one of them and start their preparations accordingly.

SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) 10+2 Examination:

SSC CHSL Exam is conducted to recruit eligible candidates for various posts such as Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Postal Assistants / Sorting Assistants (PA / SA) and Data Entry Operator (DEO) in various Central Government Departments and Ministries.

SSC CHSL Selection Process: SSC will select or reject a candidate based on an evaluation test that comprises the following.

1. SSC CHSL Tier I (Computer-based test)

2. SSC CHSL Tier-II (Descriptive paper)

3. SSC CHSL Tier III (Skill test and typing test)

SSC CHSL Tier-II (Descriptive Paper) was conducted to decide the writing skill of candidates as it’s required in the government job. The qualifying mark for SSC CHSL Tier-II (Descriptive paper) is 33%.

SSC CHSL Tier III (Skill test and typing test) was taken either in English or in Hindi, and the candidate has to choose his/her option in the application form.

Age Criteria: Minimum: 18 years, Maximum: 27 years

SSC CGL (Combined Graduate Level exam):

SSC CGL Exam is one of the biggest exams conducted to recruit eligible graduate candidates for various Grade “B” and Grade “C” posts in various Central Government Departments and Ministries.

SSC CGL Selection Procedure: SSC CGL will select or reject a candidate based on an evaluation test comprises of

1. SSC CGL Tier-I: Computer-Based Test (Preliminary)
2. SSC CGL Tier-II: Computer-Based Test (Mains)
3. SSC CGL Tier III: Pen and Paper Mode (Descriptive paper)
4. SSC CGL Tier-IV: Computer Proficiency Test/ Data Entry Skill Test

The preliminary exam consists of Quantitative Aptitude, General Intelligence and Reasoning, English Comprehension and General Awareness. The Descriptive exam comprises essay writing/ letter writing on a given topic.

Age Criteria: Minimum: 18 years, Maximum: 32 years

SSC Multitasking (Non-Technical):

SSC Multitasking (Non-Technical) Exam is conducted annually to recruit multitasking staff within the General Central Service Group ‘C’ Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial posts in various Ministries, Departments, Offices of the Government of India, in different States and Union Territories.

SSC Multitasking (Non-Technical) Selection Procedure: SSC will select or reject a candidate based on an evaluation test that comprises of:

1. Paper 1 (Online test- Objective type)

2. Paper 2 (Descriptive)

3. The descriptive exam is conducted to test the elementary language skill of the candidate.

Also, if two students get equal marks in paper 1, marks scored in Paper 2 will decide the final merit score of the candidate.

Age Criteria: Minimum: 18 years, Maximum: 25 or 27 (depending on the post applied for)

Please Note: Paper II will be conducted only for those candidates who meet the cut-off prescribed in Paper-I for different categories.

SSC Stenographers ‘C’ & ‘D’

SSC Stenographers ‘C’ & ‘D’ Exam is conducted annually to recruit Stenographers Grade C (Group B Non-Gazetted) and Grade D (Group C) posts for various Ministries or Departments or Offices of the Government of India, in various States and Union Territories.

SSC Stenographers ‘C’ & ‘D’ Selection Procedure:

SSC will select or reject a candidate based on an evaluation test comprises of

1. Online Computer-based Exam
2. Skill test

The online computer-based exam will consist of topics like General Intelligence and Reasoning, English Comprehension, and General Awareness. The total time for the Online exam is 2 hours.

Those candidates who qualify for the Online test will be called for the second round, i.e., Skill Test.

The Skill Test consists of a Dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as opted for by the candidates in the online Application Form). Students are expected to type at the speed of 100 words per minute for the post of Stenographer Grade “C” and 80 words per minute for the post of Stenographer Grade “D”.

Age Criteria:

The age limits for SSC Stenographers ‘C’ & ‘D’ are as follows:

1. Stenographer Grade ‘C’: Minimum 18 & maximum 30 years
2. Stenographer Grade ‘D’: Minimum 18 & Maximum 27 years

SSC CPO: 

SSC CPO Exam is conducted annually to recruit Sub Inspector in Delhi Police, CAPFs, and Assistant Sub Inspector in CISF.

SSC CPO Selection process:

SSC will select or reject a candidate based on an evaluation test comprised of the following stages:

1. Paper-I
2. Physical Standard Test (PST)/Physical Endurance Test (PET)
3. Paper-II
4. Medical Examination (DME).

Based on combined performance in Paper 1 & 2, the candidate will be called for a medical examination. The candidate who is successful in the medical examination will be called for document verification.

Age Criteria: Minimum: 20 years, Maximum: 25 years

SSC JE:

SSC JE Exam is conducted annually to recruit Junior Engineers (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, and Quantity Surveying & Contracts) for Group B Non-Gazetted posts within various Ministries or Department / Offices of the Government of India.

SSC JE Selection Process:

The Examination will consist of two papers:

Paper-I (Online examination)
Paper II (Descriptive Type)

SSC Junior Hindi Translator

SSC Junior Hindi Translator Exam is conducted annually to recruit Junior Hindi Translator, Junior Translator, Senior Hindi Translator and Hindi Pradhyapak within the various Ministries and Departments of the Indian government.

SSC Junior Hindi Translator Selection Process

The examination will consist of two stages.

1. Paper 1: (Online test-Objective Type)
2. Paper-2: Translation and Essay

Candidates who qualify for the second paper will be called for a document verification round. The final allocation of ministries/departments will be allocated on the combined performance of both papers 1 & 2 and the preferences provided by the candidate at the time of document verification.

Age Criteria: Not more than 30 years.
