Satya Prabin: A Software Engineer Who Left a High Paying IT Job for Organic Farming, Now Earning in Lakhs

Satya Prabin: As we all know that India has a vast agricultural landscape. But most people do not want themselves or their children to indulge in farming because of the associated risks. But today we will tell you a motivational story of a techie who left his job to pursue farming. As science and technology have advanced, new farming methods have evolved. Organic farming is among the most advanced and profitable forms of farming both in the terms of money and the environment.

In developed countries, many entrepreneurs are shifting their focus to agricultural areas and the tide has certainly started to change in India too. Satya Prabin is one such entrepreneur who left his high-paying stable job in a Malaysian IT company and returned to India to pursue organic farming. Being from a farming family, he always thought of turning the conventional farming used in his village into a modern one with the use of newer technologies.

Early Life and Career

Satya is a native of the Amalabhata village of the Rayagada district in Odisha. His father moved from Andhra Pradesh to Odisha. He belongs to a farming family. His father used to cultivate vegetables to financially support his family. Satya pursued a B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) degree in Software Engineering. He completed his B.Tech degree in 2008. After graduation, he was employed by a Malaysian IT company. Satya worked for 11 years at that company. He was being around Rs 2 lakhs per month. In 2020, he resigned from his job to begin his entrepreneurial journey.

The Idea Behind Organic Farming

Satya always had a passion for farming since childhood, when he used to observe his father doing farming. Farming was a long-awaited dream that he had nurtured for many years. Growing up in a rural setting, he had always been fascinated by the idea of farming and had a deep-rooted respect for the environment. He was keenly aware of the damage that chemical farming practices could cause to the soil, water, and air, and he wanted to do his bit to promote sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices. He started researching modern farming practices from various sources and began to learn them. Eventually, he decided to pursue his dream seeing the viable opportunity.

Software Engineer Turned Organic Farmer

Satya Prabin left his high-paying job and a stable career in Malaysia to pursue organic farming in his village in Odisha, India. This decision came as a surprise to many, including his family and colleagues, who couldn’t understand why he would choose to leave behind a comfortable life in pursuit of a seemingly uncertain venture. He returned to India in 2020 to pursue his dream of farming. Finally, he started farming by taking 35 acres of land near Jinjilibadi village. He started vegetable cultivation just like his father. Within a short span of time, his farming business became successful and he started earning more than what he used to do in the IT job in Malaysia. Satya’s agricultural achievement has made him a role model for other farmers in the community.

Reason Behind His Success

The major reason behind his success is the use of modern farming methods and organic farming strategies. He used modern techniques such as the drip system and organic fertilizers. In the drip system, the entire field is piped, and each plant receives water and fertilizer via these pipes. It ensures the proper growth of plants and helps in producing more yield per acre. He invested in composting and other sustainable farming practices to improve the soil quality and reduce his dependence on chemical fertilizers. His vegetable produce was more healthy than others due to the use of organic fertilizers which do not contain any harmful chemicals.

Today, Satya’s farm has grown significantly and he employs approx 60 people in his village and neighboring communities, making him a major asset to the local economy. H has become the most successful farmer in his area. To observe his farming techniques, even government officials like BDO (Block Development Officer) and the Collector visited his farm to understand his farming strategies. Officials are now suggesting other farmers adopt Satya’s modern farming techniques in order to produce more yield and earn more income. Satya now aims to make his organic farming business bigger and wants to provide livelihoods to more people.

Satya’s decision to leave his high-paying job in pursuit of organic farming is an inspiration to many. He has shown that it is possible to follow one’s dreams and make a meaningful contribution to society, even if it means taking a road less traveled. His dedication and hard work have not only transformed his life but have also had a positive impact on the environment and the local community.
