Vikas Divyakirti: Vikas Divyakirti is a name that resonates with many aspirants of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) who are preparing to take on one of the toughest exams in the country, UPSC CSE (Civil Service Examination). From his early days as an officer to his current role as an IAS coach, Vikas has come a long way, breaking boundaries and setting new standards for IAS preparation. His journey is an inspiration to many, and his story is worth sharing.
Dr. Vikas Diyakirti is a renowned educator, mentor, and author. Because of his simplicity and innovative teaching approaches, he is one of the most preferred, well-known, and recognized UPSC trainers. He is not just a UPSC trainer, but also an author, teacher, and lecturer. He is also the founder of Drishti IAS Coaching Classes, which is based in Delhi. Students refer to him as Abdul Kalam because of his dedication to his students and teaching. His unique methods have helped students in their professions numerous times, which is why students held him in high esteem.
Vikas Divyakirti was born in a middle-class family in Haryana. His father and mother were educated, so he developed reading habits from them. His parents were educators of Hindi Sahitya due to which Vikas developed a particular fondness for the Hindi language. He completed his middle and high school at Saraswati Shishu Mandir. After that, he went to Delhi and pursued a BA Hons in History from Zakir Hussain College, Delhi University. After that, he pursued an MA (Master of Arts) degree in Hindi Literature and Sociology from Delhi University.
Because of his interest in education, he continued to study even after getting two degrees and earned an LLB, M.Phil, and even a Ph.D. Despite his extensive credentials, he also holds a PG degree in English to Hindi-translation from Delhi University. Vikas Divyakirti always wanted to do something for the betterment of the country. He appeared for the Civil Services examination and cracked it in 1996 in his first attempt at an early age. There he was assigned to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Working for a few years as an officer in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Vikas realized that he wanted to do more. He wanted to help more people and make a greater impact on society. This led him to quit his job as a bureaucrat and start his own coaching center for civil service aspirants. He believed that his experience as an officer would help him provide better guidance and support to the students, and he was right. In 1999, he opened an offline coaching center named Drishti IAS guiding classes in Delhi. The coaching center became an instant hit because it used to provide simplified coaching to UPSC applicants. Today, his academy is one of the most popular and successful coaching centers for Civil Service Exam preparation in India, and hundreds of students have benefited from his guidance and coaching.
During his early years of teaching, he used to teach students in Hindi only. Gradually, he started providing coaching in the English language too. He also started providing interview guidance to the aspirants. After the expanse of digital technology, in 2017 Vikas Divyakirti started his online learning channel on YouTube called Drishti IAS. Currently, it has more than 10 million (1 crore) views. Due to his engaging lectures, most of his videos have received views of millions. Also, his offline coaching class has expanded to 3 branches in Delhi.
What sets Vikas Divyakirti apart from other IAS coaches is his innovative and simplistic approach to IAS preparation. He believes that IAS aspirants need to be trained not just in the academic aspects of the exam but also in the practical aspects of the job.
