Know Colonel Manpreet Singh: A Chartered Accountant who joined Army
Colonel Manpreet Singh, a true hero who made the ultimate sacrifice, has left an illustrious legacy. He was born in Punjab and was a bright student and excelled in his studies. After graduating from Chartered Accountancy, he worked as a Chartered Accountant (CA) for some years, but he always wanted to join the army.
Colonel Manpreet Singh was awarded the prestigious Sena Medal by the Chief of the Army Staff on March 13, 2022, in recognition of his bravery and dedication to the nation.
His family reflects his strength and resilience, with stoicism in their eyes as they recall happy memories. His late father, a Naik in the 12 Sikh Light Infantry, saw his son become an officer in the same battalion he once served in as a jawan.
Colonel Manpreet loved photography and used it to document his time with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Africa. During his CA internship in Chandigarh, his friends remember him as a dedicated professional.
He studied hard and graduated from Kendriya Vidyalaya Mullanpur with a B.Com degree from SD College Chandigarh. After passing the Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination in 2004, he enrolled at the Indian Military Academy in 2004 and graduated in June 2015 before joining the 12 Sikh LI.
Colonel Manpreet Singh was martyred on September 14, 2023, along with Major Ashish Dhonchak and DSP Humayun Bhat, in a gunfight with terrorists in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. He was the commanding officer of the 19th Rashtriya Rifles unit.
