GATE 2025: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee has launched the Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) 2025 Syllabus, Paper Pattern and Many More Details at gate2025.iitr.ac.in. Candidates interested in appearing for the GATE 2025 examination can check their syllabus on the same official website.

Some key points related to the Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) 2025-

  • The authority, IIT Roorkee has specified that the GATE 2025 will be organised for 30 test papers.
  • Candidates can only appear for either one or up to two test papers.
  • Candidates are only allowed to take the exam in English language.
  • The exam will be organised in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.
  • There are 30 subject papers available in GATE 2025.
  • The entire GATE 2025 exam will be of 100 marks. The General Aptitude (GA) of 15 marks, is common in all the papers of GATE 2025. The remaining papers will totally hold 85 marks.
  • Candidates appearing for two-paper combinations must have a primary choice of test paper. The second test paper must be chosen from the allowed combinations.
  • The combinations offered by the IIT Roorkee are allowed in Regular and Extended registration windows.
  • The additional two-paper combinations will be opened later and when notified, will be notified on the GATE 2025 website. IIT Roorkee said, It will be subject to the availability of infrastructure and scheduling feasibility.
  • The exam centres for the second test paper will be notified differently from the first paper but will be appointed in the same city.
  • The duration of the GATE 2025 examination is 3 hours.

GATE 2025: Types of Questions

The candidates who will appear in the upcoming GATE 2025 examination will get the following types of questions:

  • Candidate’s Selected Subject(s)
  • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)
  • Multiple Select Questions (MSQ)
  • Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions

GATE 2025: Abilities Tested

The Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) Examination tests its candidate’s Recall, Comprehension, Application and Analysis & Synthesis abilities.

GATE 2025: Marks Allotment

Candidates who will appear in the GATE exam in 2025, will be awarded marks based on the below marking scheme except the Architecture (AR), Statistics (ST), Humanities and Social Sciences (XH), and Life Sciences (XL), Chemistry (CY), Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA), Ecology and Evolution (EY), Geology and Geophysics (GG), Mathematics (MA), Physics (PH) papers:

  • General Aptitude (GA): 15 marks
  • Engineering Mathematics: 13 marks
  • Subject Questions: 72 marks
  • Total: 100 marks
  • Total Time: 180 minutes

Architecture (AR), Statistics (ST), Humanities and Social Sciences (XH), Life Sciences (XL), Chemistry (CY), Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA), Ecology and Evolution (EY), Geology and Geophysics (GG), Mathematics (MA), Physics (PH) papers, marks distribution:

  • General Aptitude (GA): 15 marks
  • Subject Questions: 85 marks
  • Total: 100 marks
  • Total Time: 180 minutes

Architecture (AR)-

  • General Aptitude (GA) Marks: 15
  • Compulsory Section: Part A (60 marks, common for all)
  • Subject Marks: 25 (Part B1: Architecture or Part B2: Planning, selectable during the exam)
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Total Time: 180 minutes

Geomatics Engineering (GE)-

  • General Aptitude (GA) Marks: 15
  • Compulsory Section: Part A (55 marks, common for all)
  • Subject Marks: 30 (Part B1: Surveying and Mapping or Part B2: Image Processing and Analysis, selectable during the exam)
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Total Time: 180 minutes

Geology and Geophysics (GG)-

  • General Aptitude (GA) Marks: 15
  • Compulsory Section: Part A (25 marks, common for all)
  • Subject Marks: 60 (Part B1: Geology or Part B2: Geophysics, chosen at the time of application)
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Total Time: 180 minutes

Engineering Sciences (XE)-

  • General Aptitude (GA) Marks: 15
  • Compulsory Section: Section A (15 marks, Engineering Mathematics, common for all)
  • Subject Marks: 70 (TWO additional sections of 35 marks each, selectable during the exam)
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Total Time: 180 minutes

Humanities and Social Sciences (XH)-

  • General Aptitude (GA) Marks: 15
  • Compulsory Section: Section B1 (25 marks, Reasoning and Comprehension, common for all)
  • Subject Marks: 60 (ONE additional section, chosen at the time of application)
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Total Time: 180 minutes

Life Sciences (XL)-

  • General Aptitude (GA) Marks: 15
  • Compulsory Section: Section P (25 marks, Chemistry, common for all)
  • Subject Marks: 60 (TWO additional sections of 30 marks each, selectable during the exam)
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Total Time: 180 minutes

There will be two sections in the Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) 2025 exam:

  • General Aptitude (GA)

GATE 2025: Marking Scheme

The Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) 2025 examination will be checked using the following marking scheme:

  • There is a negative marking in the GATE 2025 exam MCQ-type questions.
  • If a 1-mark MCQ is answered incorrectly, then the candidate’s 1/3 mark will be deducted.
  • If a 2-mark MCQ, is answered incorrectly, then the candidate’s 2/3 mark will be deducted.
  • There is no negative marking in the MSQ or NAT-type questions.
  • There is no partial marking being decided by the authority side for the MSQ-type questions.
