Delhi Police warns Personnel against filing fake Income Tax Returns

The Delhi Police General Administration (GA) Department has issued strict instructions to its personnel, warning them against filing fraudulent income tax returns by claiming fake deductions. This decision comes after the Income Tax Department of Delhi discovered numerous cases of wrong returns, allegedly assisted by forged deduction documents.

The IT department’s investigation resulted in searches and seizures, revealing multiple individuals implicated in the misconduct. When questioned, the concerned officials admitted to fabricating deduction claims in order to obtain unlawful tax refunds without proper documentation.

In response, the Delhi Police’s General Administration (GA) department issued a letter to all Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) throughout districts and units, encouraging them to educate personnel about unethical IT returns practices. Personnel involved in these cases have been instructed to file revised income tax returns by paying the additional taxes owing on their actual income before the deadline to avoid legal investigation and fines.

DCPs have been instructed to proactively advise their teams of the serious implications of filing bogus IT returns. Personnel are encouraged to correct their tax filing right away to avoid further scrutiny and penalties.

This issue not only exposes unethical behaviour among some staff, but it also raises concerns about financial accountability within the force. The GA department’s prompt response emphasises the importance of maintaining integrity and complying with tax regulations.

False deductions can result in severe fines, imprisonment, or both under the Income Tax Act of 1961. Personnel found guilty may face disciplinary action, such as suspension or removal from service.

This proactive action by the Delhi Police intends to restore accountability and guarantee that all personnel follow tax laws. The crackdown acts as a message to other government personnel to follow ethical guidelines while filing income tax returns.
