Lucknow: 2nd Year Law Student Found Hanged in Hostel Room

A 20-year-old girl hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her room in Lucknow, where she is pursuing her BA LLB. She was found dead on Friday, 10 January 2025, in the hostel room of her institution.

It has been said that on Friday at 8:20 am, two of her roommates repeatedly knocked on the door. After receiving no response, the assistant warden of the university hostel, Deepti Mishra, opened the door with the help of a guard and found the girl hanging with a dupatta tied to the ceiling fan of the room. They further informed police that a female student of the university had died by committing suicide in the hostel room. Police immediately reached the location for inspection and sent her body for postmortem, and her family members had also been informed about the incident.

A suicide note was discovered in her room, in which she apologized, writing, “Sorry Mom, Dad, I am not a good daughter.” The Lucknow Police reported that the student, originally from Mathura, had been staying in hostel room 308A in Lucknow since July 2024.

Before taking the drastic step, the woman is said to have had an argument with her friend over the phone. Following the incident, the police have taken possession of the mobile phone and a register from the scene.

Further action will be taken on the basis of the post-mortem examination report and mobile records. A written application from the hostel warden, reporting the incident to the police, has been taken for now,” said ACP Vibhuti Khand.

In a statement, the university expressed sorrow over the student’s death, stating, “It seems that the student took this extreme step due to personal reasons. The entire campus is deeply saddened and affected by this tragic incident.”
