Housekeeping Staff Posing as GST Officials Arrested for Conducting Fake Raid

In a shocking incident, two housekeeping staff members of a GST department were arrested for posing as GST officials and conducting fake raids.

The accused are being identified as Nagaraj P (37) and Dadafir Ballari (35), who were working as outsourced housekeeping staff at the office of the Principal Commissioner of Central Tax and GST Commissionerate (Bengaluru West), located in the BMTC bus stand building in Banashankari. Since they worked inside the GST department, they had very good knowledge of how the GST officers dress, speak and conduct raids.

Using this knowledge, they carried out a fake GST raid. On January 1, 2026, they allegedly conducted a fake raid on a tobacco trader’s office in Peenya. The duo threatened the traders to seize their goods and file cases. They reportedly extorted Rs 5 lakh from the traders.

Their fraud came to light when the vigilance officers noted a sudden and suspicious change in their lifestyles. Due to this suspicion, the vigilance officials conducted a surprise inspection at their office premises on Tuesday. During a search of their room inside the office premises, officials found Rs 2.5 lakh in cash, fake identity cards, and forged search warrants.

The fake ID cards showed Nagaraj under different names and job titles, including an intelligence officer and a sepoy. Several fabricated search warrant orders purportedly issued by government authorities were also recovered.

The police have registered a case at Banashankari Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused has been sent to judicial custody. Investigators are now checking if they cheated other traders and how they managed to create fake government documents.
