GST Officer Attacked in Kanpur During Truck Check; Accused Threatened to Shoot
On April 18, 2026, when GST assistant commissioner of the state tax mobile squad, Yogendra Kumar, tried stopping a truck for the purpose of checking at Sanigawan in the Chakeri area on Ganeshpur Road, he was attacked by a group of about 12 people in Kanpur. As per the sources, the group also threatened him with death.
The place of the incident was under the jurisdiction of the Chakeri police station. The truck driver and his associates assaulted him and also misbehaved. Subsequently, he filed an FIR against this entire group at the same police station.
As per the FIR registered by Yogendra Kumar, he is presently employed in the state tax department’s mobile squad tenth unit, and he was on his duty when he was directed to conduct a check in Ganeshpur along with his team. They had stopped a truck because they suspected something was wrong with its goods and documents. The truck was carrying bottle scrap, but the papers, like the bill and e-bill, did not seem correct. The officials had asked the driver to stop the truck and show all the relevant documents; however, the driver could not produce any valid documents.
Thereafter, he visited the GST portal to check information regarding this truck, where he found that the e-bill was issued by a firm named Sushil Traders, located in Bihar, showing the dispatch of goods from Fatehpur to be transported to Vinod Enterprises, located in Delhi, but in reality, they seemed to be loaded from somewhere else. He further discloses in the FIR that the situation seemed suspicious.
While the checking was going on, around 10 to 15 individuals arrived at the crime location; one of them was the truck’s owner, who identified himself as a retired army personnel. Thereafter, these people started misbehaving and then attacked the GST team. They also threatened to kill the officer and even said they would shoot him if the truck was taken to the GST office.
After that, they forcefully drove the truck away from the crime location and parked it in a warehouse by restricting the GST inspection. After this incident, Yogendra Kumar filed a complaint at the local police station. As per Police Officer Abhishek Pandey, present in the station at that point, the case has been successfully registered for assaulting a government officer, stopping official work, and using abusive language. Police are present, conducting search operations to arrest the accused.
