GST Officer Caught Taking Rs 20 Lakh Bribe to Settle Fraud Case in Rajkot
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) carried out a major action against corruption in Gujarat. It arrested Mukeshkumar Manbodh Kumar, a CGST Superintendent in Rajkot, along with Akash Kaloliya, a private tax consultant. They were caught while accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh to settle a fraud investigation.
The ACB took action after a citizen filed a complaint and refused to pay the bribe.
The case started when the CGST officer allegedly demanded Rs 25 lakh. He wanted the money to close an investigation related to unpaid GST and fake billing, and then both sides agreed on Rs 20 lakh. The officer then told the complainant to give the money to Akash Kaloliya, who acted as a middleman.
The operation was carried out under the senior officials of the ACB. The team, led by Inspector AA Khokhar, stopped the deal at the right time. They recovered the full Rs 20 lakh in cash from the spot. Authorities arrested both the government officer and the consultant. They have been charged under the relevant laws.
