A Couple Arrested for Defrauding Government for Rs.12.23 Crore GST Evasion Officers from the CGST Thane Commissionerate of Mumbai Zone's Anti-Evasion wing have detained a couple for GST evasion worth Rs.12.23 crore. A Thane-based firm, M/s Datalink Consultancy, was identified as a suspicious entity based on thorough data mining and data analysis, and an investigation was launched into this firm. This firm was found to be providing staff to a number of high-profile companies, according to the investigation. The firm had collected GST from clients but had failed to deposit it with the government exchequer for over a year, in contravention of the CGST Act 2017. This case is part of the CGST's Mumbai Zone's anti-evasion campaign against tax evaders and fraudsters. During the last five months, the CGST Thane Commissionerate has discovered tax evasion of Rs.1023 crore, recovered Rs.17 crore, and arrested six people. To identify possible tax evaders and fraudsters, the CGST department employs data mining, data analysis, and network analysis techniques. The department is concentrating its efforts on all areas of the economy, particularly the service sector and the digital economy, in order to combat tax evaders who have been unfairly competing with honest and compliant taxpayers. In the next days and months, the department will step up its anti-evasion efforts.
