The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Inspector in a bribery case. Arvind Kumar Lakhendra Singh, the accused CGST Inspector, is a government class-2 officer who works in Rakhial Division-1 in Ahmedabad South. He was apprehended for requesting and taking a bribe of Rs. 1.50 lakh at the GST Bhavan in Ahmedabad’s Ambawadi district.

The complainant in this case, according to the ACB note, works as a tax expert. His client had gotten two letters in August of this year for “failure to pay service tax in the financial years 2015-16 and 2016-17.”

A complaint tax adviser came in court on behalf of a client and presented a written response stating that his client owed no tax.

However, the accused CGST Inspector insisted on paying Rs. 15 lakh in tax and, if not, a bribe of Rs. 1.50 lakh at a rate of 10% of the entire payable sum.

As a complaint was unwilling to pay the bribe, he informed ACB, and a trap was set up, and the accused CGST officer was apprehended after receiving bribe money. The accused has been arrested. Under the direction of ACB Ahmedabad unit incharge assistant director GV Padheriya, trapping officer SN Barot, Inspector of Ahmedabad rural ACB police station, carried out the trap.
