Anti-Corruption Bureau Arrests GST Officer for Taking Bribe in Navi Mumbai
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Navi Mumbai has arrested a GST officer and his assistant for taking a bribe of Rs 9,000 from a software developer.
Amit Bhanudas Giri, a 45-year-old Class II officer posted at Konkan Bhavan, was detained on Monday after authorities received a complaint against him. His assistant, Vaishali Vasant Kadam, 39, was also found to be involved in the case.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Dharmaraj Sonke, the software developer had received show-cause notices related to Profession Tax Enrollment (PTEC) and Profession Tax Registration Certificate (PTRC) with digital signatures.
When the developer went to the GST office to sort out the issue, the officer allegedly asked for Rs 10,000 to settle the matter. The ACB set up a trap and caught Amit Bhanudas Giri red-handed while he was accepting Rs 9,000 in his cabin. His assistant, who was part of the plan, was also arrested.
