Bengal Civic Body Job Scam: ED Seizes Rs.15 Lakh Cash, Gold and Jewellery worth Rs.1.63 Crore
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) seized Rs. 15 lakh in cash, gold and diamond jewellery from the apartment of an Assistant Engineer posted to the Kamarhati Municipality in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Monday, according to an official.
The ED action was in line with the investigation into the multi-crore cash-for-jobs scheme.
According to sources, in addition to cash, gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs.1.63 crore were confiscated from Tamal Dutta's home. According to a person close to the situation, Dutta was unable to provide sufficient answers concerning the source of the funds or valid paperwork surrounding the purchase of gold and diamond jewellery.
Dutta began working as an Assistant Engineer for the civic authority in question in 2016.
However, he was unable to provide sufficient answers as to how he was able to amass such vast money in only seven years of employment. According to sources, the ED raiding team members also recovered a 1,300-page document.
Officials believe that these records could provide critical information about severe financial violations in Kamarhati Municipality.
