BMC guidelines for Seal of High Rise Buildings in Mumbai amid Covid-19
The BMC changed its order on Tuesday, a day after issuing new rules to seal houses in the city in the event of an increase in Covid-19 instances.
If there are at least 10 Covid patients in the occupied flats, the building can now be shut. Due to the difficulty of sealing many tiny structures with fewer stores or flats, the alteration was implemented.
The BMC guidelines stated on Monday that a building or wing of a housing complex will only be sealed when more than 20% of individuals in occupied apartments have been infected with Covid-19.
I S Chahal, the Municipal Commissioner, released amended instructions on Tuesday. The updated directive stated that "if more than 20% of occupied flats in the building or a wing of the building complex/society is afflicted by Covid-19 patients and at least 10 Covid positive cases are detected in these affected flats in total,"
According to a BMC official, there are several buildings with fewer flats, and buildings with even one or two cases may have been sealed under Monday's guidelines. "For example, if a seven-story structure had two apartments on each floor, even three incidents could have resulted in sealing." With the change, the building would only be sealed if there are at least 10 cases," a BMC official said.
Previously, if five or more cases were discovered, the BMC would seal a building or wing of a housing complex. To prevent the spread of Covid-19, the entire building was handled as a micro-containment zone.
The amended order will take effect on Tuesday. The local board also stated that the building's managing committee should assist patients with necessary supplies. On the fifth and seventh days of home quarantine, high-risk contacts of Covid patients should be examined.
