The GST SIB team raided four places of the trader including Chandasi Kolmandi under Mughalsarai Kovatali area on Tuesday afternoon. During this, the team examined the documents related to the purchase and sale of coal.

At the trader’s site, irregularities have been found on a huge scale. The team is now investigating tax evasion. Coal is traded widely in Mughalsarai Chandasi Kolmandi. In order to make large profits in business, the purchasing and selling of coal through phoney billing and fictitious firms is also practised indiscriminately in the market.

Many raids have been conducted on this matter, encompassing from the CBI to the GST department. The GST SIB team from Varanasi raided four locations on Tuesday afternoon, including the office of a major Kolmandi businessman in Mandi and his apartment in Banaras.

According to the sources, the team has raided the place of coal businessman for sending coal to Nepal with the help of fake documents as well as tax evasion on a large scale. The team scrutinized the documents related to the coal business of the trader beyond the office and residence and other places for more than three days.

During this time, the team also matched the trader’s stock of coal. Later, the team travelled to Chandasi with the paperwork obtained from the merchant’s office in Kolmandi. The team was engaged in matching the documents till late evening.
