Businessman Arrested in Saharanpur for Rs. 2.76 Crore GST Fraud
A businessman was arrested in Saharanpur after an assistant commissioner of the State Tax Department, Brijbhan Gupta, filed a case against the businessman for tax evasion of crores on the GST portal.
According to authorities, the businessman caused a loss of Rs 2.76 crore to the government by using fake bills and claiming bogus ITC (Input Tax Credit). However, the police have registered a case in the matter and started an investigation. Assistant Commissioner of Section-2 of the State Tax Department, Brijbhan Gupta, filed a complaint in the city police station and said that the firm is registered in the name of Bharat Bhushan, a resident of Numaish Camp.
The investigation found that Bharat Bhushan had shown sales on the GST portal without making any real purchases and used fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) to adjust them. During the financial years 2018-19 and 2019-20, he created fake transactions and caused a loss of Rs. 2.76 crore to the government.
The state tax department has issued a tax demand of Rs. 1.43 crore against businessman Bharat Bhushan for alleged fraud. The police are now investigating the matter.
