CA Paper Exemption under New Scheme of Education
The Institute of Chartered Accountant of India(ICAI) has introduced Exemption(s) from appearing in papers or Group of CA Examinations under New Education Scheme from May 2024.
ICAI’s new Education and Training Scheme went into effect on July 1, 2023. The examination at the intermediate and final levels under the New Scheme of Education and Training will begin in May 2024.
The Council of the Institute has decided to grant exemptions under New Syllabus approved by it for Intermediate Examination (under sub-regulation (4) of regulation 28G of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988) and for Final Examination (under clause (v) of regulation 31 of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988) to existing students for papers passed by them under the Old or Existing Scheme as follows: –
(i) Paper-wise exemption on the basis of securing sixty per cent or more marks:
The Council has decided to continue giving exemptions to a candidate for a specific paper or papers. This exemption was originally given under the Old/current Scheme due to getting at least sixty percent marks in one or more papers within a Group/s in accordance with the current exemption requirements.
This exemption will continue to apply to the remaining chances in the relevant papers authorised by the Council under the New Scheme, as detailed below:
(ii) Details of papers/ group in which candidates are required to appear and pass in Final Examination under New Scheme:
The Council decided that a candidate who passed in one but not both groups of the Final Examination under the Existing Scheme would be eligible for exemption in that group and would be required to appear and pass in the remaining group / paper(s) in order to pass the Final Examination under the New Scheme, as follows:
Note: The Final Course Students who take the May 2024 Examination under the New Scheme may qualify for Self-Paced Online Modules after passing the May 2024 Examination but before applying for membership. Following that, the applicant would be qualified for following examinations only after passing the necessary Self-Paced Online Modules.
Students who have appeared in Final Old/ Existing Scheme and converting to Final New Scheme are exempted from appearance in Self-Paced Online Module SET C and SET D.
(i) Paper-wise exemption on the basis of securing sixty per cent or more marks:
The Council has decided to continue the practise of giving a candidate exemptions in one or more papers. These exemptions were originally given under the Old/Existing Scheme, depending on a minimum of sixty percent marks in one or more papers within a Group/s, according to the existing exemption standards.
This exception will continue to apply to the remaining opportunities in the related paper(s) authorised by the Council under the New Scheme, as indicated below:
