CAAS Re-Files Writ Petition Against CBDT Over Tax Portal Glitches
The Chartered Accountants Association, Surat (CAAS), has recently filed a new writ petition before the Gujarat High Court against the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) for the continuous failure at the income tax portal. This comes after the previous petition of CAAS was mistakenly disposed of along with the unrelated matters, even though their petition was different and had deeper grounds. In this fresh petition, CAAS has explained the difficulties taxpayers and professionals face every year. The first issue is the continuous glitches on the income tax portal, which slow down work and cause delays. The second issue is the late release of important forms and utilities, which gives very few days to complete the work. The CAAS also pointed out that giving last-minute extensions does not help the taxpayers; instead, it causes more stress and impacts the compliance of the taxpayers. Another issue raised in the petition is the problem with advance tax. The CAAS claimed that due to portal glitches, many taxpayers were unable to pay the Advance Tax on the scheduled date of 15th September 2025. The petition also mentioned that imposing interest and penalties on taxpayers when delays are caused due to the portal violates Article 14 of the Constitution. It also argues that continuous glitches and constant uncertainty cause mental stress and affect dignity, violating Article 21 of the Constitution.📢 CAAS Re-files Fresh Writ Petition Against CBDT
