CBDT Approves PHFI for Scientific Research Tax Benefits Under Income-tax Act, 2025
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) under Ministry of Finance has approved Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), Delhi for scientific research under the category of University, college or other institution, for the purposes of section 45(3)(a)(i) of the said Act of 2025 and
rules 32 and 34 of the Income-tax Rules, 2026.
It will run for five tax years from 2026-27 to 2030-31.
Upon approval, donations made to PHFI for scientific research would be eligible for tax benefits under the Income-tax Act, on the prescribed conditions.
To continue enjoying the approval, PHFI must:
- Comply with the conditions specified in Rule 34 of Income-tax Rules, 2026.
- File Form 15 with the Income-tax Department every year by 31 May of financial year in which donations are received.
- Issue Form 16 certificates to donors, mentioning the amount of donation, as required under Rule 31 of the Income-tax Rules, 2026.
