CBI arrested CGST Inspector and two others in Bribery Case of Rs.10 Lakh

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested an inspector posted at the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) in Jaipur and two middlemen for receiving a bribe of Rs. 10 lakh on Friday.

Inspector Ankit Aswal was serving as a preventive officer (PO) of CGST, and two middlemen, Sonu and Ashok, were listed as accused by the Central Agency.

According to the officials, a case was filed based on a complaint that the CGST inspector and others asked for a bribe to settle a pending dispute with the CGST’s Jaipur branch.

The middleman was caught while receiving the bribe of Rs. 10 lakh on behalf of the inspector. The accused, who had been seized, will be produced before the Special CBI court in Jodhpur, said the CBI.

The sources alleged that Aswal was asking the owner for a hefty bribe. After that, the complainant filed a case with the CBI. The CBI team on Thursday laid the trap and arrested the accused while accepting a payment of Rs. 10 lakh after verifying the information.

According to the officials, the case is being investigated under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

It was stated that there is a connection between the incident for which the bribe money was sought and the incident in Jodhpur. The sources added that further investigation into the case is in process, and the accused will be brought to Jodhpur as a part of the further inquiry.
