CBI arrests 2 GST officials in Rs.50,000 bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent and an Inspector, both of Central GST, Jaisingpur, District- Kolhapur (Maharashtra) in a bribery case of Rs.50,000/-.

On the basis of a complaint, a case was filed on April 28, 2022 against a Superintendent and an Inspector of the Central GST, Jaisingpur, District – Kolhapur (Maharashtra). The Superintendent Central GST, Jaisingpur allegedly requested an undue benefit of Rs.75,000/- from the Complainant through his Tax Consultant to settle the problem of his service tax liabilities from 2017-18 to 2020-21. It was further claimed that the accused negotiated the bribe amount with the complainant and his Tax Consultant and settled on Rs.50,000/-.

The CBI set the trap, and the Inspector, Central GST, was apprehended while taking a bribe of Rs.50,000/- from the complainant. Later, the Superintendent was apprehended as well. Searches were undertaken at the accused’s homes in Jaisingpur and Kolhapur, resulting in the recovery of damning documents.

Both of the apprehended suspects are due to appear today in the Court of Special Judge, Jaisingpur, District – Kolhapur.
