The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two Superintendents, an Inspector and a Tax Assistant of GST and Central Excise Division, GST Bhawan, Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) in bribery of Rs. 25,000.

A complaint was filed against two CGST officials in Aligarh. The Complainant (an LIC agent) claimed that no firm in his name was ever registered with GST, but he has been receiving continuous notices from the CGST Department since 2021, with a demand for Rs. 1,70,981.

It was also claimed that when the Complainant met both of the accused at the CGST office in lieu of the notice, the accused demanded a bribe of Rs. 30,000 to terminate the notice.

After knowing the situation, CBI laid a trap to capture the convict. The Tax Assistant working in the CGST office obtained the bribe of Rs.25,000 from the complainant and handed it over to an Inspector and while handing over the bribe amount CBI officials caught them red-handed.

Two Superintendents, one Inspector, and a Tax Assistant were arrested during the investigation, and the bribe was recovered. Searches were conducted at five locations including at Aligarh in the premises of the accused.

A cash of approximately Rs.5 lakh and some documents were found during searches. All the arrested accused will be produced before the Competent Court.
