CBI Court grants two to four years Rigorous Imprisonment to Ex-UBI officer in bribery case
The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Siliguri (West Bengal) has sentenced Captain Kanwar Akashdeep Mahabir, then Security Manager, Union Bank of India, Regional Office, Siliguri to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 40,000/- in a bribery case.
CBI had registered the instant case on 06.11.2012 against Captain Kanwar Akashdeep Mahabir, then Security Manager, Union Bank of India, Regional Office, Siliguri & also Security In-charge of Guwahati Region of Union Bank of India on complaint.
It was claimed that the accused asked the complainant for a bribe of Rs. 40,000/- in exchange for exercising official goodwill. The accused was captured in a trap set by the CBI while soliciting and collecting a bribe of Rs. 40,000. On December 21, 2012, a charge-sheet was submitted against the accused following an inquiry.
The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
