CBI has arrested CGST Superintendent in a bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Amaravati Division, Vijayawada, for requesting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 8,000/- from a complainant.

A case was filed against the accused for allegedly requesting a bribe from the complainant. The Complainant said that he intended to register his shop with GST and applied for registration with the GST Department in Vijayawada. The GST Superintendent sought a bribe of Rs.10,000/- before issuing a registration certificate to his shop. During the course of the negotiations, the accused agreed to lower the bribe to Rs.8000/-.

The CBI set up a trap and apprehended the accused while asking and taking a bribe of Rs. 8,000/- from the complainant. Searches were performed at the accused’s office and residential premises in Vijayawada, which resulted in the discovery of some damning papers.

The arrested defendant was brought before the Competent Court and remanded to Judicial Custody.
