CBI Recovers Bribe Money from Toilet Commode; Arrests 2 GST Officials

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two Goods and Services Tax (GST) officials in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu, in a bribery case. The accused are a Superintendent and an Inspector of GST.

The case began on 7 April 2026 after a complaint was filed accusing the GST Superintendent of asking for a bribe of Rs 30,000 to clear the complainant’s GST registration. After negotiation, the Superintendent agreed to accept Rs 15,000 instead of Rs 30,000. The complainant was directed to send this bribe money on 7th April 2026.

Accordingly, the CBI set up a trap. The Superintendent was caught while demanding the bribe.

During the investigation, it was found that the Inspector, GST, Ranipet Range, was also involved. He allegedly tried to hide the bribe money by flushing it down a toilet. The CBI officials later recovered the amount from the commode. Both officials have now been arrested, and further investigation is ongoing.

The CBI has asked citizens to report any cases of corruption or demands for bribes by officials. Complaints or information can be submitted to the CBI Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) in Chennai, located on the 3rd Floor, Shastri Bhawan, 26 Haddows Road, Nungambakkam, or by calling 044-28273186.
