CBIC forms Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams for Lok Sabha Elections 2024

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has tasked the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) of the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, New Delhi, with conducting checks to prevent the flow of suspicious cash, illicit spirits, drugs/narcotics, freebies and smuggled goods to influence the electorates during the General Election to Lok Sabha, 2024.

As a result, the Chennai GST Zone has established sufficient Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams in each Commissionerate covering the entire Districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in order to maintain vigilance over the entire jurisdiction and halt the flow of illicit goods that may be used to entice voters during the election process.

All Teams will monitor all warehouses in their respective jurisdictions and be authorised to prevent the stockpiling of commodities such as sarees, white goods, kitchen items, cash, and so on.

All Commissionerates in the Chennai GST Zone will work closely with the CBIC‘s various expenditure monitoring teams and Election Commission-appointed law enforcement agencies.

A control room that operates 24X7 has been opened in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The general public is asked to call the Control Rooms listed below if they have any information about the illicit movement of goods/ valuables during the election period.
