CBIC Notifies New GST Rates for Services Applicable from September 22 in Line with GST Council Meeting [Read Notification]
The GST Council, in its 56th meeting held on September 3, 2025, discussed on GST rate rationalisation and gave recommendations on new GST rates, offering significant relief to the common man. The GST rates on several daily used items have been reduced.
The Ministry of Finance has issued a notification (Notification No.15/2025-Central Tax (Rate) dated 17th September, 2025), making key amendments to the earlier notification no. 11/2017-Central Tax (Rate), dated 28th June, 2017. Based on the recommendations, the central government has announced new GST rates for services. Here are some key changes in CGST rates:
Transport and Logistics Services
- The standard rate of most transport services is 9% CGST (18% GST).
- The multimodal transportation now attracts 2.5% CGST for non-air transport modes.
- Renting goods carriages with fuel included attracts 2.5% CGST.
- Multimodal transport in which atleast one more mode of transport is by air, attracts 9% CGST.
- Job work for diamonds will be taxed at 0.75% CGST.
- Job work for food products, textiles, printing, handicrafts, etc., will attract 2.5% CGST.
- Job work for Alcoholic Liquor Manufacturing will be taxed at 9% CGST.
- Tailoring services attract 2.5% CGST.
